Tera W. Hunter is the Edwards Professor of American History and Professor of African American Studies at Princeton University. She is a specialist in the nineteenth and twentieth centuries, and her research focuses on gender, race, labor, and Southern histories. Hunter is the author of two award-winning books, the latest of which is Bound in Wedlock: Slave and Free Black Marriage in the Nineteenth Century, which a starred Library Journal review called “an important and comprehensive work that is worth reading by all.” She is also co-authoring The Making of a People: A History of African-Americans with Robin D.G. Kelley and Earl Lewis.
