Sarah Broom is a writer whose work has appeared in the New York Times Magazine, the New Yorker, O, The Oprah Magazine, and the Oxford American. She earned her master's degree in journalism from the University of California, Berkeley and has been awarded fellowships at Djerassi Resident Artists Program and The MacDowell Colony. She was a finalist for the New York Foundation for the Arts Fellowship in Creative Nonfiction in 2011 and was awarded a Whiting Foundation Creative Nonfiction Grant in 2016. A native of New Orleans, Broom was the lead writer for former Mayor Ray Nagin. Her debut book, the memoir The Yellow House, has been praised by author Heidi Julavits as "a masterpiece of history, politics, sociology and memory."
