Richard Blanco is a poet, professor, public speaker, memoirist, and civil engineer. He was the first immigrant, the first Latino, the first openly gay person, and the youngest person to be a US inaugural poet when he read at President Obama’s 2013 inauguration. He is also the first Education Ambassador for the Academy of American Poets. Blanco’s poems have appeared in The Best American Poetry and Great American Prose Poems, and he has published multiple award-winning poetry collections as well as two memoirs. His latest collection of poetry, How To Love a Country, explores immigration, gun violence, racism, LGBTQIA+ issues, and other themes in accessible and emotive verses.
