As a poet, editor, essayist, and translator, Martín Espada has published close to twenty books including the poetry collections Vivas to Those Who Have Failed; The Trouble Ball; The Republic of Poetry, which was a finalist for the Pulitzer Prize; and Alabanza. He has received the 2018 Ruth Lilly Poetry Prize, the Shelley Memorial Award, an Academy of American Poets Fellowship, the National Hispanic Cultural Center Literary Award, the PEN/Revson Fellowship, and a Guggenheim Fellowship. Espada is currently a professor of English at the University of Massachusetts Amherst.
