Louisa Thomas

October 19, Copley Square
Louisa Thomas is a historian, journalist, and author. She is also a former contributor for the New Yorker and former editor and writer for Grantland. A previous New England Fellow, Thomas is the author of both Louisa, a biography of First Lady Louisa Catherine Adams, the wife of John Quincy Adams, and Conscience, an account of two brothers in Thomas’s lineage who faced family and political divisions upon the advent of World War I. Thomas’s work has appeared in the Atlantic, the New York Times, the Paris Review, and Vogue, and her latest book, Mind and Matter, a collaboration with John Urschel, follows the former Baltimore Ravens lineman’s career in both football and mathematics. New York Times–bestselling author Adam Grant hailed the book as “a charming memoir on the joys of solving puzzles and pushing yourself past your so-called limits.”
