Christina Thompson

October 19, Copley Square
Christina Thompson is a memoirist, editor, and professor. Her work, which has appeared in the Paris Review, the Boston Globe, and JSTOR Daily, often explores the effects of Westernization on the islands of the Pacific. She is the author of Come On Shore and We Will Kill and Eat You All, a memoir of Thompson’s romance with a Maori man and the cultural displacement of New Zealand. Her latest release, Sea People, examines the history of settlement in Polynesia in what NPR calls a “deeply interesting read, and at points incredibly moving.” The former was shortlisted for the 2009 NSW Premier’s Award and the 2010 William Saroyan International Prize for Writing. Thompson is the editor of both the Harvard Review and Meanjin, an Australian literary journal. A recipient of an NEH Public Scholar Award, she also earned the James E. Conway Excellence in Teaching Writing Award for her work at Harvard University Extension.
